LPFM
The FCC is opening up Low Power FM (LPFM) licenses starting on October 15, 2013. SEED and SPLAB, two non-profit organizations in the Rainier Valley have combined to apply for a license and hopefully bring community radio to the Rainier Valley. It is to create awareness of this effort that this blog exists.
In addition to Jerri Plumridge of SEED Arts and Paul Nelson of SPLAB, Tony Benton of Musica Media and Justina Guyott, a local community activist, have joined forces to be the beginning of an advisory board to guide the process. Jonathan Lawson, formerly of Reclaim The Media, has joined our efforts. This board is seeking volunteers to move the idea forward and will be hosting a larger community meeting to share our vision and find others who would be committed to creating a diverse, innovative and creative radio station to help improve the quality of life in the Rainier Valley.
