Accepting Applications for the Creative Arts Digital Media Academy

The CADMA training program is recruiting middle and high school aged students to gain skills in the digital arts. CADMA is presented by Rainier Valley Radio 105.7fm, powered by SouthEast Effective Development (SEED) and MUSICA Entertainment, and hosted by Rainier Community Center.  The summer CADMA session will run from July 7th, – August 29th, three days a week from 1:00pm – 4:00 pm. Open enrollment begins June 11th.  Youth will receive intensive digital media skills development and training through CADMA over the course 8 week course.


The CADMA Training Program is FREE, and each student selected 
will receive a $300.00 stipend upon completion of the class and all requirements.

CADMA will provide students with an understanding of digital media through exposure to current technologies. Youth will acquire the necessary skills to create their own videos, news broadcasts, websites, and on-air radio broadcasts. Youth will receive instruction in communications and journalism; television, video and film editing; digital photography; web design, social media and blogging; the use of digital media in business; and the use of social media for social change.


Creative Arts Digital Media Academy:
  • Is a digital media leadership program that utilizes, computers and digital technology where students research news, create websites, on-air radio broadcast, and videos. 
  • Combines journalism, film, visual arts and digital technology to develop youth leaders, improve digital literacy, academics, and expose youth to careers in media technology.
The students will gain valuable creative skills in:
  • web and graphic design
  • editing videos and music 
  • operating cameras
They will also gain:
  • Valuable leadership skills
  • Knowledge of how to implement social change through art
  • Techniques to effectively use the media to inform their peers.
Students will learn to:
  • Write journalistically
  • Research traditional and electronic sources
  • Review ethical and legal responsibilities
  • Understand digital media through exposure to current technologies, ex. multimedia, digital photo, digital video, digital audio, apps, and social media.
  • Create/market an interactive website, social media. 
  • Market and create their own businesses/class projects using digital media.
A select group of students will be chosen to participate in the Creative Arts Digital Media Academy Training Program. Summer programming for the 2014 CADMA Training Program will take place at the Rainier Community Center over the following eight week period:  A minimum commitment of 24 days and 72 hours of class time.


SELECTION AND CLASS MAKE-UP

The selection committee will strive to choose applicants who represent a cross-section of students currently attending or have attended middle or high school in 2014. Ten students will be chosen to form a diverse group of individuals based on experiences, interests, backgrounds and strengths.
